Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a challenge for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like standard biological terror, but beneath Together resides a intense meditation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the two stars infuse a particular energy to their characters, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The narrative starts when Tim and Millie transition from the big city to the countryside for her career. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, sure, but that’s mostly where the cliches cease. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence starts to affect the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, blending elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and far away from his social circle. He dreads the concept of completely losing his sense of self in another person. This fear is amplified by the reality he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes one partner or the other the obvious villain.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
